Good morning everyone!
2 avia-beauty fan
Thanks a lot on updating us re: the latest weather surprises in Moscow. I would have thought that there are more than just one monumentS in the capital city of Russia :-)))
Anyway, we are all human beings, and monuments are just monuments and they can't speak for themselves.
Last time when I saw fluffy and stunningly beautiful white snow in Moscow was in December 2004. It was also bitterly cold though...
Hope that Moscovites and children in particular will benefit from generous snowfalls. Wouldn's wish that for those who are in the position to sort the consequences out!... and those who inevitably could be affected, while travelling/flying/maintaining/servicing/repairing/cleaning/catering....
I am lucky enough to enjoy the festive season at home as we are on holiday now for 2 weeks! Everybody feels relaxed and busy at the same time,as there are only 2 days left before Christmas dinner with turkey and crackers!!!

Here are some jokes to give us all some Christmas Cheer!

Three men died on Christmas Eve and were met by Saint Peter at the pearly gates.

"In honor of this holy season," Saint Peter said, "You must each possess something that symbolizes Christmas to get into heaven."

The first man fumbled through his pockets and pulled out a lighter. He flicked it on. "It represents a candle," he said. "You may pass through the pearly gates," Saint Peter said.

The second man reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys. He shook them and said, "They're bells." Saint Peter said, "You may pass through the pearly gates."

The third man started searching desperately through his pockets and finally pulled out a pair of women's glasses.

St. Peter looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and asked, "And just what do those symbolize?"

The man replied, "They're Carol's."

Are you still wondering what is the difference between QNH and QFE?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do you think I'm interested in the difference?
Moreover, I know what QNE is, and the difference between altitude, height and FL is familiar to me as well. ;)))
(Sure, you know what's the background)

I was just puzzled if QNH/QFE are used in their Russian variant or not. I'm not a pilot, so I wasn't taught navigation or smth. alike to become acquainted with it.

Smb. gave me clear answer at the very beginning but the continuation of the discussion humbled me: full of cynicism, vulgarity and offensive lexis towards me. What for?

Conclusion: "Ah, Puggy-Doggy seems to be so brave..."

Hi all!

LarisaKLO

I see that something was terribly misunderstood and underestimated. These are NOT the rules of this house. We are all learning from each other in this Thread=CLUB and nothing else, can't guarantee the same on the BLUE forum side, though. I once had the stupidity to go over there and start the topic. It was a good lesson for me, as I didn't realise that there were "too many" yobs and not just professionals who simply were taking the piss.

MSL

MSL- you are great! Well done! I am really very proud of people like you who could stand by!! and not only! Thanks for all your help so far... and by the way your English is different now, MUCH BETTER!

I am wondering where are other members of the Club: NN, Romeo, B-B, oldnavy...? Haven't hEard from them...and hope that they are OK, just busy:-)))

It's undoubtedly so (within this part of Avivforum).

But it seems to me you didn't even see comments at the very end of that topic. It was much more than just offensive. I can't still believe that some people are able to tell such dirty words and advice to other people they've never met, especially to girls or women. Moreover, I was also shocked with the reaction of other members: they were like jackals at helpless prey. :=(((

P.S. I'm happy with the work of moderators who reacted rather quickly.

"Yobbo" or "yob" is a slang term for an uncouth or thuggish working-class person. The word derives from a back slang reading of the word "boy" (boy or boyo reversed becomes yob or — slightly modified — yobbo).
In Britain, as the word 'yobb' came out of the London back slang and into more general English usage, it and latterly 'yobbo' have meant 'working class, adolescent, male person'.
It looks as if British people are travelling round the world and happily borrowing some language slang expressions alongside with traditional souvenirs and habits:-)))

A man in Scotland calls his son in London the day before Christmas Eve and says, 'I hate to ruin your day but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing; forty-five years of misery is enough.'

'Dad, what are you talking about?' the son screams.

'We can't stand the sight of each other any longer' the father says. 'We're sick of each other and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Leeds and tell her.'

Frantically, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone.
'Like hell they're getting divorced!' she shouts, 'I'll take care of this!'

She calls Scotland immediately, and screams at her father 'You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there.
I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow.
Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME' and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. 'Sorted! They're coming for Christmas - and they're paying their own way.'

If someone thinks it's a matter of prestige I wouldn't certainly consider the issue worth discussing or arguing about, it's just not me at all...

Of course, I am thinking about money and who doesn't??? My point is that one can have a car or a house or a yacht ...no reason why not! My point is that you still can have a car or a house or a little boat and it shouldn't cost too much money, or at least all your salary just to cover the cost. The same with clothes, travelling and many other things that one cannot imagine your life without. This is not because I don't like luxury items. I just cannot see any point in having luxury items that I can't simply afford.

For example you can travel to Singapore in business class for £2,500 one way or even more and enjoy all the pleasures of it. On the other hand you can travel with the same airline for £299 return, a little bit uncomfortable perhaps. You still travel the same distance and time. In the very unlikely event of emergency landing you will be as as anyone else in the same boat, struggling to reach the safety asap.
You can't persuade me in seeing the world from another angle, I am afraid. But!!!If i inherit or win the lottery and become a millionairess I will probably change my mind!!!;-))

Hi everyone!
I have an idea. This will be a game so that everyone who would like to learn more words are very welcome tp participate!
There is one simple rule: I am starting a part of a sentence and next visitor has to add one or two of his own, starting from the beginning. It will go on until it's too long to handle.
So there we begin.
On the plane I can read a book, have my meal.....
Next person
On the plane I can read a book, have my meal, look around....
So ...

Hello, Mila!
I hesitated for some time. What is better… to keep silence and leave you with “no echo” again or try to “boost” your idea. As far as nobody replied so far I choose the latter. The idea itself is very good. But the starting plot is not quite I think. It should have been more intriguing, involve flight crew and imply something more than just enumeration. Nevertheless let’s have it started. But instead of a word or two I dare to bring a bundle of them and suggest the additional rule to possible followers: use different verbs to describe passengers “activities” in “never can be so long” English sentence. To avoid any personification I replaced “I” for “One”:

On the plane One can read a book, have one’s meal, look around,
…watch through the window, walk to the “facilities”, bother the stewardesses, fall asleep, feel the airsickness, breathe again /applaud after touchdown, swallow often to “unplug” the ears, dream of stretching the legs, make an acquaintance to the person aside, remember the prayers, ask permission to visit flight deck, shoot the views with camera, enjoy deeply the wonder of flight, …
Hope to be continued by someone…

Bringing “voluntarism” to the rules of the game I’m ready for every sentence (verdict) from Mila…

Happy (pre-)holiday time to everyone!

Hi тестер, HNY to you too!
Well, this is rather philosophical issue....Anyway shortly I would say that one is just a traveller whether it's the Earth, space, time etc we are talking about. The calendar is a conventional and disputable issue. The change of scenery and the environment could only suggest that we are now in a different state or mood. I am, personally, struggling with the so-called winter blues, don't feel strong enough to fight in any form.
What about you then, would be intersting to know what do you think about it? :-)))

P.S. Had an 11-year class today where we talked about self-awareness...Whether we should think about the enhancement of the species/cloning/selection....The opinions differed. As everyone is unique!

Why are we ignoring the Club Chairman appeal to name the things the passenger shalI not do ?
Mila is terribly right. Laying in the aisle is quite bothering and obstructive whim. Though not too harmful for the person himself and even most favourable for g-load toleration. Potentially more harmful for the person is decent sitting… unstrapped. Once upon a time he becomes an unintentional tester of own head and the overhead panels strength.

Regarding my new post as the Club Chairman, I would like to play wit it a bit, hope you don't mind:
"The term chairman has its origins in 10th century Kingdom of England, when the king or his spokesman sat alone in a chair before the group, who sat on benches or stood. Other terms sometimes used for the office and its holder include presiding officer, president, moderator, chair, and convener."
If only I could be the King :-(( Regrettably, because of my female status, I could be only the Queen...or perhaps a Chairwoman,a Chair, a Chairperson etc...:-)))
