An Ukraine Air Alliance Antonov AN-12, registration UR-DWF performing cargo flight UKL-4061 from Prestwick, SC (UK) to Malabo (Equatorial Guinea) via an intermediate stop at Tamanrasset (Algeria) with 7 crew, was climbing out of Tamanrasset about 15km south of the aerodrome when radio contact was lost with the aircraft at 02:44L (01:44Z). The aircraft was later found crashed in mountaineous terrain about 15km/8nm south of Tamanrasset Aerodrome near the village/resort of Tagrembait. No survivors have been found, three bodies have been recovered so far.

The aircraft carried oil drilling equipment from Scotland to Equatorial Guinea.

Algeria's Ministry of Transport confirmed the aircraft flew from Prestwick to Malabo with a number of intermediate technical stops including Ghardeia and Tamanrasset, when about three minutes after departure from Tamanrasset radio contact was lost with the aircraft at 01:44Z. A search in the following morning located the aircraft about 15km south of the aerodrome, no survivors have been found, three bodies have been recovered so far.

On Aug 31st 2014 the Ministry of Transport reported the black boxes are still being searched for. On departure from Ghardeia the crew reported problems consistent with overload. The investigation will also look into whether those problems occurred again during departure from Tamanrasset, the cause of the crash will only be known after the investigation has been completed.

Ukraine's Ministry for Foreign Affairs have confirmed an Ukrainian registered aircraft crashed near Tamanrasset.

According to a map produced by Algeria's Dйpartement de Zoologie agricole et forestiиre the village of Tagrembait is located at coordinates N22.6777 E5.4357, nearby mountains rise from 1300 to 3000 meters (4300 to 9800 feet).

Happened to see these Antonov/IL guys in the most remote locations of the planet, working hard and humbly, struggling for keeping those workhorses flying. Sad to express my respect in such occasion. May they all rest in peace.
