Apart from communication language there is also the so-called sign language, which I think is worth considering as well, especially if you are in a different country. i.e. abroad ;-)

It appeares that to become a stewardess in early 60-s in the USA one had to look smart and to be that smart as to be able to fuel a plane!...Amazing...
Today is the first maiden flight of Dreamliner!

Good luck to a newly born "bird"...

Sorry, Mila, it's not the first maiden flight, but first service flight. Her maiden flight (each aircraft is "she", right?) was about two years ago:

Good luck to her - a beautiful lady with some birth problems but a great future.

Maiden flight with passengers still maiden, isn't it?;-) Service or perhaps commercial..One way or the other let it be just a reliable aircraft!

Sorry, you are not quite right. The term "airship" refers to a lighter-than-air aircraft (дирижабль), and "aircraft" - to all others, i.e. havier-than-air aircraft. They, in its turn, may be divided to fixed-wing aircraft (самолеты) and rotary-wing aircraft (вертолеты). It's an official FAA terminology (ask me how I know this :)
But anyway - all of them are "she", not "it". At least from the pilot's standpoint :)

Airplanes take after maritime (boats) tradition and are referred to as "She". Thats why they also have a Captain, port and starboard sides, etc.

Snafu
Старожил форума
28.10.2011 17:54
Exactly. They also inherited a red light on the port (left) side and green light on the starboard (right) side. There is a mnemonic rule to remember which is which - "Port is red" - and port wine is definitely red, trust me :)
In Russian, the rule is slightly different: "Right light is green - like a co-pilot on the right seat. And the left one is red - like a face of the Captain in the left seat".

Hi Mila. I'm not quite sure about "it" or "she" with regard to the plane. At my personal view and attitude she is more appropriate. But my opinion could be dependent on my my background :-)

The most bizzare festive celebration. Luckily we are over it,as my son now is big enough for all those tricks or treats and outfits as well.

Well, all I can say that id doesn't matter if someone calls a plane "she" or "it". But pilots are obviously of one gender or another :-))

Here are some statistics for the Year 1910:

The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.
Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph.
The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower!
The average US wage in 1910 was 22 cents per hour.
The average US worker made between $200 and $400 per year.
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, A dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place at HOME.
Ninety percent of all Doctors had NO COLLEGE EDUCATION!
Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press AND the government as 'substandard.'
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or egg yolks for shampoo.
Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from entering into their country for any reason.
The Five leading causes of death were:
1. Pneumonia and influenza
2. Tuberculosis
3. Diarrhea
4. Heart disease
5. Stroke

The American flag had 45 stars.
The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30!
Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented yet.
There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day.
Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or write and only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.
Back then pharmacists said, 'Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health'
(Shocking?)
Eighteen percent of households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help.
There were about 230 reported murders in the ENTIRE U. S. A.!

Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years.

Hi there!
Here is a new game - Google Oracle. Go to google.com, type in something like "subject_in_question is/are", add a space and see the auto-filling options, which truly represents people's mind about the subject.

Marriage is
...for white people
...a private affair
...so gay

Alimony is
...bullshit
...wrong
...tax deductible

Russians are
...coming
...crazy
...asians

Beer is

...good for you

Go ahead :)
