Didn't you know that?

"Little kids!

Not at any price go to Africa,
Never, ever go walking to Africa!
There are sharks,
There are gorillas,
There are big fierce crocodiles in Africa!
They will bit you,
They will hit you,
They will eat you!

So little kids,
Don't go waking to Africa!"

Hi everyone!
It's rather challenging to embrace myself into writing a report.
To start with the flight on A380- it's one of the best flight I have ever experienced for my "flying history". All 12 hours of very smooth, noise free and simply very pleasant atmosphere, you've got that increqdible feeling of travelling inside the latest technology achievement of engineering creation in aviation so far. All those gadgets- built in tv- part of IES (inflight entertainment system), with indidvidual light built in the monitor, comfortable chairs, enough leg room in economy class and excellent Singapore Airlines crew cabin service, just a few to mention. The ability to see yout flight path plus all those beautiful "geographical points" that you can imagine to see from the height in clear weather...
The possibility to travel eastwards and see the way the daylight gradually changing into night is increadible. Changi airport is a jewel in the crown of the best worldwide airports. After long haul you suddenly find yourself in a kind of surreal and immaculate surrounding...And then you realise that you left all your stress, cold, problems behind and just let others spoil you for a while...

Hi, Mila!
I believe the most interesting things we could get to know about other individual are not about a history itself (facts in their chronology) but about the inner life of the person. It's own impressions and emotions.
So tell us, did you feel anxious coming aboard of A-380? How did your mood change after a while? Did captain communicate with passengers and if he did what exactly he said and how the passengers took it? For example did he attract your attention to overflying geographical landmarks and did tell more about them? Where there any areas of uncomfortable meteorological conditions during the flight? Was the landing smooth enough? Was the arrival procedures at an airport comfortable? And how was the locals? Do they speak English? On the whole is the local situation (epidemiological and social) safe enough for tourists? And so on :-)

PS Photos are nice!

Hi MSL

Thanks for all your positive comments :-)
Now back to your questions
Anxiety- yes, I felt, naturally, first time on a new, for me at least, very big bird;-) Also mixture of excitement, high expectations and joy of being again a passenger with my favourite operator - Singapore Airlines. While the flight progressed my mood has changed form feeling just good to very good:-))
The Captain:
"Good morning ladies and gentlemen. This is your Captain....speaking. Welcome on board of Singapore Airlines flight number SQ317. The flight from London to Singapore will take approximately 11 hours 30 minutes. Please sit an relax and enjoy your flight"...Then the Head stewardess went on through the main safety procedures and we went off.
On the route the Captain didn't communicate at all, as between meals and numerous snaks, the passengers were engaged into either sleep or entertainemt in accordance with their interests and individual preferences. Unfortunately after 4 hours, while flying over Russia, Rostov-on-Don, the computer on board system, showing the flight path, went wrong and I can't tell for sure which route did we follow along. However all films -impressive collection of new realeases as well as favourite classics, westerns, comedies and etc and music collection ( over 700 CD albums)were non affected. And this was the only feature that went wrong.
The flight was extremely smooth as well as the touch down.I was releived and naturally very glad to be back on the ground.:-)))
The airport procedures in Changi Airport- one of the busiest airport, are very smooth and hardly noticible at all. You DO NOT FEEL ANY STRESS going through passport control and baggage reclaim area. Very efficient and organised. Everything is working. Becasue of the atmospere in the building- space, flowers and gardens, sparkling floors, latest technologies in rest rooms are all strikingly pleasant and comforting. Perhaps people who had designed this aiport bore in mind that the passengers could be very tired and stressed because of being airborn for too long to experience further stress :-)))
The language:
Both Singapore and Malaysia, being part of British Empire, have inherited English language and traditions, so the locals speak and understand English pretty well.
Tourist:
Very warm welcome to all who come to have relaxation and holiday time.Medical and sanitary facilities are high priorities in both countries, medical care is of very high standard. You just need to be careful when buying food in street/on road markets and being aware of hot climate ( the Equatot we are talking about), also personal hygiene habbits are essential-washing hands, probably oftener than usual at home:-)))
It's worth going once to fall in love with the countries :-)))

Monkey business
Oh, those cheeky monkeys. They could be found by the road on different places, they also do come to hotels as those are part of their natural habitat. They are usually very friendly and you can feed them monkey-nut and they would be very happy. Don’t do anything to intimidate them, once upset it would be no more safety for you. They don’t hesitate to jump on you. And then God knows what to expect!!!This is reality and they can be rather aggressive and bite you, in particular males, in attempt to protect his "own family".

Great interviewer job! As for monkeys, yes (Mila gave the clue:) they are jumping… on you. Without extra words that specify "vector of attack" the English neutral “jump” implies just motion upward/downward (and “leap” - forward :) Russian original wording is evidently better - short and clear :)

Hi to all!
Yes, avia-beauty fan, just spot on, you know that you are 100% "fair trade"- I feel that I am actually tired of travel excitement burden and not that much in the mood to start babbling about on my reappearance tomorrow morning :-)))
To wait for holiday time is one thing and to recover from it is quite a differnt one, not sure though which "leg" is harder....
However, looking back I've already caught myself one another crazy idea- start looking for next holiday spot in the area :-))) An early bird- more and cheaper deals! This is something that keeps me going and just work hard to make it again on a rainy day next winter:-)))Keeping my fingers cross, of course.

At Flight level CAT was likely caused by a jet stream. Mountain waves (your terrrain turbulance) is one of the other causes of CAT.

Mila, it's difficult to decide without seeing. Usually mounting waves are most powerful at lower levels, which are comparative to the height of the mountains. But could affect layers up to tropopause (approx your FL). In general it depends on direction and strength of the wind in correlation with profile and height of the mountains. To evaluate weither it was a jet stream or mountain waves more precisely, special meteorological data should be taken into consideration. But by default, at higher FL-s jet stream induced CAT is most expected.

Mila, thank you very much for an inspiring holiday report! It made my day! Maybe I should consider going to Malaysia some day!

I'm confused with you terms, guys. "Mounting waves", "mountain waves"..
I would call them "vortexes", would that be ok? Btw, what about microburst? I think it often occurs in mountaineous areas.

Mounting waves - is a sort of "write as you hear" mistakes. Correct writing is mountain, of course.
--------------------
I would call them "vortexes", would that be ok?
-----------------
I don't think it's the most exact definition. If it's too hard to remember a professional term just say air hole :-)

-------------
Btw, what about microburst? I think it often occurs in mountaineous areas.
-------------
It's generally not about mountains. It's about thunderstorm or similar weather activity. When it lifts up a large amount of cold air over the supporting layer (tropopause for example) and then that air drops back to the ground, causing a wind shear at the surface layer. However a mountain slope at the way of horizontally moving cold air possibly could provide such lift, I guess. You'd batter ask a meteorologist about it, you know.

Many thanks for your explanation.I understand that it's rather difficult to work out the type of turbulence being just a passenger, and, unfortunately, it's unavoidable and sometimes unpredictable. And some good news is that it doesn't last forever, it starts and finishes :-))
