I have it tested lots of times. And I know the real picture. And this time everything was Ok in the end. But to test it in the UK... it sounds challenging.

Not quite relevant to our discussin, just found on MSN news ...to support my quote..

"A US woman finally achieved her ambition of graduating from college - the day before she died and nearly three weeks after celebrating her 100th birthday.

Harriet Richardson Ames died on Saturday, the day after receiving her diploma at her bedside in Concord, New Hampshire.

The retired schoolteacher died pleased that she had accomplished her goal, her daughter Marjorie Carpenter said. Ms Ames had been in hospice care."

It's true, an inspiring story.
The other one, not sure though, whether I have already quoted here before.
An English lady has failed her driving test for 98 times!!! When the journalist asked her what she was thinking about it, the woman just answered:" I am not giving up. I have already booked my next test". The story circulated 2 years ago. I haven't heard about it since...Well my personal POV and advice would be " Enough is enough. You just can't handle the damn car!" ;-)))

Oh, those funny customers...

Notices placed in the windows of the store in St Mellons, Cardiff read: "To avoid causing offence or embarrassment we ask that our customers are appropriately dressed.

"Footwear must be worn at all times and no nightwear is permitted."

BBC News reports a Tesco spokesman as saying: "We're not a nightclub with a strict dress code, and jeans and trainers are of course more than welcome.

"We do, however, request that customers do not shop in their PJs or nightgowns. This is to avoid causing offence or embarrassment to others."

The spokesman was not aware of a similar ban having been introduced in any other branch.
P.S. Tesco is one of the biggest supermarkets' chain in the UK.

When you are bored...
What to do when you are bored at work..

1- Kill a few Flies

2- Put them under the sun to dry for one hour.

3- Once they are dry, pick up a pencil and paper... Let your imagination flow.

Hello, everyone
Mila, judging by the accessories you mentioned (a fly, a pencil) you mean office life :) A agree, boring is the best (not to say “only”) applicable to the office life (and least applicable to aviators:). The best&honest Russian equivalent for any office is quite boring-sounded контора, of course. But no place for imagination where Computers/Internet removed the problem of boring at all :) Ever-ready relax for the mind. And if aggression needs be discharged the files (instead of flies) could be killed (to free the HD space :)

I liked your interpretation of fighting the boredom of the office time being.
The point is that I am not that much bored at work. I would say quite the opposite :-))
The idea is that if you have a moment and not sure how to spend it you could probably do....????

Just read that...
"..in the cockpit of the future there will be two animals, a pilot and a dog.The pilot would be there to feed the dog, and the dog will be there to bite the pilot if he tries to touch anything" (NYT News Service)....Nice prospective, though...
One more on the cockpit...
If there were female pilots only, you would probably call it..."henpit" ?

Hello, everyone,

Mila, If just a free moment… sure check for “Brush up your English…” update.

Two animals (despite the perfect combination) is too much and economically unsound. The airline representative only. Pilots will be positioned in the ground offices behind the doors with “Don’t disturb. Flights in progress” plates on them.

If there were female pilots only, you would probably call it..."henpit" ?
:)))
And flight deck becomes flight stage ?

Hello everyone!

Not at all, avia-beauty fan. It's always nice to talk to you and to know that you are keen on lifting this thread up:-)over and over again.

Just to keep some more language curiosity update:

"Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis", a condition meeting the word's definition is normally called silicosis, which occurs chiefly as an instance of a very long word. The 45-letter word was coined to serve as the longest English word and is the longest word ever to appear in an English language dictionary.
I am just wondering if it's possible to pronounce it somehow/somewhere/by someone???
Give it a try:-))

Steering away from food topic and carrying on market research...
"A brand new department store has just opened in London. It sells husbands.
When women go to choose a husband, they have to follow the following instructions:-

You may visit this store ONLY ONCE! There are 6 floors and the value of the products increase as you go up. You may choose any item from a particular floor, or may choose to go to the next floor, but you CANNOT go back down except to exit the building.

One day a woman goes into the store and rather nervously starts climbing the stairs.

When she gets to the 1st floor a sign on the door reads:

Floor 1: These men have jobs.
She thinks, "I can do better than that" and keeps going up.

The 2nd floor sign reads:
Floor 2: These men have jobs and love kids.
But she goes up another floor.

The 3rd floor sign reads:
Floor 3: These men have jobs, love kids and are extremely good looking.
"Wow," she thinks, but feels compelled to keep going.

She goes to the 4th floor and the sign reads:
Floor 4: These men have jobs, love kids, are extremely good looking and help with the housework.
"Oh, mercy me!" she exclaims, "I can hardly stand it!"
Still, she goes to the 5th floor and the sign reads:

Floor 5: These men have jobs, love kids, are extremely good looking, help with the housework and have a strong romantic streak.
She is so tempted to stay, but she goes to the 6th floor and the sign reads:

Floor 6: You are visitor 31,456,012 to this floor.
There are no men on this floor.
This floor exists solely as proof that women are impossible to please.
Thank you for shopping at the Husband Store.

To avoid gender bias charges, the store's owner opens a Wives' store just across the street.

The 1st first floor has wives that love sex.

The 2nd floor has wives that love sex and have money.

The 3rd,4th, 5th and 6th floors have never been visited.

Hello, the Club residents and visitors :)

MSL
I can imagine inadequacy of that teacher who ardently gave a gib to your English :)

Mila Love
It was a smartest plot (story, joke, whatever). Just essence of many matrimonial threads left and right :) Moreover I found here the same idea of my own (afraid, more realistic :) concoction. The idea of “no back” selection process. But my version is somewhat different, less comical and undivided for two groups. The grown up person (he or she) enters a “toy” shop which is a long straight row of “trade halls”. The person knows that there is a number of halls ahead but does not know how many exactly. The “articles” however have no any comment plates. Just go, inspect (in a way you like) and select one “toy”. After “buying” just keep going ahead and see what might be the other your choice. Of course, while entering the shop the person gets under the spell of multiple and various toys. Even if his/her patience is strong enough to leave the first hall with empty hands, most probably he/she leaves the second/third hall with a “seems to be the best toy”… The rest of this buy (or life) story is known to everyone…:)

Unlike other lazy readers I often just restrain myself after getting abundance of positive charge coming with each your post (e.g. I did so when bursted with laughter at religion basis of divorce and pig/hen labor input in famous foodstuff). I care about target audience of your forum and don’t want to scare away the entry-level English speakers with own “ideas” and long sentences (afraid, it really take place…).
But none of restraints today.

Hello everyone!
Hello MSL!

I’m very glad Mila’s forum jumped up in her absence :)

MSL
I'm running on risk of being taken as a boring grumbler…
________________
No risk at all :) I see that I managed to provoke ambiguity again :)
Now I’m going to clear the air. Anyway if someone (let alone you) says that my message is of fuzzy sense it’s the lesson for me for future to be more precise in formulating the “ideas”.
My ”reproach” (if any:) was to those readers who might reply to Mila’s lessons/questions/ideas/jokes/etc but persistently keeps silence even when it’s clear that her certain message is a brilliance and She waits for feedback. Mila always answers to everyone but the forum’s “multitude” audience sometimes cannot utter a word in reply to several Author’s messages running. That’s why “lazy”. “Restraint” proved to be understood wrong really :) I meant the following “self-excuse”: sometimes (unlike those who might be lazy) I didn’t reply to Mila (when I could and even wanted to !) just to avoid abusing presence of my nick on this Forum rather than because there was nothing to reply. I don’t know why but since I appeared here with more or less regular visits (despite all the self-restraints) Mila has been having less work for profile activity (and even became less critical to incorrect grammar in our posts :).
So MSL, you are by no means an addressee of my “laziness” reader reproach. You are the Writer here (from the outset!) and I always enjoy your smart dialogs with the Author.
Though… I can name the “addressees” – those earlier Forum visitors who then were somehow able to leave Mila :)

Unlike those people who prefer to complain about difficulties of learning English and injustice of level 4 requirements at correlated left side thread of the forum, I'm just trying not to miss the opportunity to improve language skills, which is kindly granted by Mila. Since this skills have become one of the crucial professional skill for aviators (no matter do we like it or not). Let along it allows me to socialize with kind people and take the rest from swearing of the left side of the forum.

Seems you've perceived the “Writer” status too literally and tried to “downgrade” it modestly :) Speaking seriously, I meant exactly what you said about. I believe all the other “writers” here, me inclusive, have more or less similar motives. But let’s face it, beyond all our motives there is a… unique Forum Author. English Enthusiast & G(reat)SOH Lady & Aviation Aficionado. It’s simply impossible now to imagine English Forum at avia.ru led by someone else. I tried to stay just reader of Mila’s dialogs (mostly with pilots&ATC) and grammar advices for thirty pages but eventually “gave in” to the spell :)

Yes, Mila is a wonderful hostess of the thread (although I'm not a supporter of unrestrained praise). As for me the lack of writers roots from specific audience. Studying English is no doubt a hot issue nowadays. But It's really difficult for major portion of technicians (the target audience of the forum) to express in a plain language. We see it well at the right side. All the more if the language is foreign. Thereto technicians are usually very intolerant to even little mistakes (both their own and especially opponent's). That's why they are just afraid of being blamed for saying something incorrect and consequently prefer to keep silence.

Seems you are right and my concerns are confirmed. To cure the reader/writer imbalance it’s really better to avoid bulky abstract ideas and “wordy” feedback messages. I’ll correct my behavior in that sense. Otherwise we are at risk to stay the only writers here. Nevertheless I hope that someone will support us within tough two weeks at least … :)
