Why did you think that MSL was not from Russia? ;-)))

You see now, when your English is not that of a typical ordinary Russian pilot, you might well go ahead and participate in international pilots'forums...Ain't you there yet? :-)))

Yet I'm not. I even haven't though of it at all... But It's an interesting idea! Could you recommend some? Do you really think I'm able to participate in International English speaking forums without attracting a disgrace to myself and my Russian origin?

I've looked over it (www.pilotweb.aero). And that's what I thought:

Even though I was an old-age African-American
I'd have learned English without despondency and laziness
At least for one reason:
So that not to read boors and trolls of avia.ru

I mean it's not about topics. It's about culture of communication and state of the soul. As for the forum you've pointed, it's really nice. The drawback is that it's mainly dedicated to the General Aviation. My interests are in the field of airline transportation.

Hi everyone!
2MSL - great stuff
Even though I was an old-age African-American...;-))))
***********

If you can't remember whether you were there or not, say, "If I was there." This means you may have been there in the past, but maybe you weren't there.

If you are not there now, say, "If I were there..." This means you are not there now, but you are going to hypothesize/speculate about what would happen if you were there now.

old-age=elderly both are good!

You are well right to say that I read sometimes some pilots' forums, though far from writing anything there. Simply as I am not a professional, but aviation aficionado :-)))

Hi!
Thanks for explaining the "difference" between "was" and "were". It implies that I should have written "If I were an old-aged..."
I suspect it already is't the 4th level of ICAO, but closer to 5th...

Hi everyone!
Several days ago I had an interesting experience of English usage. I had to have an English exam in an educational institution. It means I was obliged to did the home work to be allowed to the exam. But the task of the homework seemed to me rather basic and not challenging enough. Nevertheless it was pretty large and therefore quite boring. Having 4-th level of English (which is distinctly higher then exam criteria) I tried settle the problem by dealing with teacher. To be more convincing I applied to her in English... But she turned out to be rather hostile. She began to allege me in different wrongdoings. From laziness to offering the illegal actions (what illegal in validating the official certificate?...). And even suspected me in faking the last one. It was very offensive from her. I have never found myself in a situation when I must deal in English with such a "problem" negotiator. And after all I began to "forget how to speak English", because my jaw had just falled off. No doubt I got a gibe about my English in the end.
What for I'm so verbose? I just want to say that I have understood why people are learning English for decades with such a "teachers" and still unable to link a couple of words. Now I'm sure the only real way to learn English - to do it by yourself.

PS Mila no offence towards you. I see you're not from those people.

By the way. Is it correct to say: I work as a pilot?

Hi MSL!
Very sorry to hear about your sad language experience. You must have met just an ordinary teaching snob. Of course Your English is what you have achieved personally. I cannot see any other way than finding out the right way for you by yourself, although you need the right guidance for sure. There are just a few good/proper teachers. Don't worry I am not part of those either :-).
You are damn right to say that in Russia there are lots of "teachers" who have never spoken to a native speaker. It's not their fault, though. But what is very frustarting they do not want to know a bit more and challenge their own linguistic ceiling. That is rather serious and damaging habbit. Here in England the approach is different and yet the foreign language knowledge is far beyond adequate. Only few students are more or less can do all the communication activities on a reasonable level. But this rather a different story.
A typical example is your sentence, which is perfectly CORRECT.
You can also add
I work as airline pilot.
I fly a plane.
Don't be put off by just having approached a russin teacher of artificial language. Just be confident in whatever you do.
P.S. Thanks for your compliment.:-)))

Mila, I'm not upset too much. I'm already mature enough to be hurt by people with alternate virtues of the soul. All I feel sorry about is people who would be frustrated being taught not to use a language as a mean of communication, but... I don't know ... to exercise the exercises maybe.
Thanks for your explanations.

To exercise the exercises- have never heard that before and must admit that it sounds like to butter the butter...but I LIKE it!!!
Keep on brushing up your own language and get huge personal satisfaction...One day you will have a chance to test it properly, perhaps here in the UK? ;-)))
